Hair Cutting and Trimming Tips for Men

When it comes to looking good and feeling good, men should regularly cut their hair and trim their facial hair. This includes giving themselves a hair trim, trimming their bears, manscaping chest and mustache hair to name a few. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to cut hair and trim body and facial hair. Here are a few top tips for cutting and trimming men’s hair:

1. Always start with clean hair
Whether you’re cutting your hair or trimming your facial hair, always start with clean hair. Clean hair is easier to work with and your trimmer won’t get stuck in hairs. If you have gel, hairspray or other products in your hair, then this can cause your trimmers to get caught in your hairs or it can pull them. Not only that, but clean hair is easier to style once it’s been cut or trimmed. Regardless if you’re trimming facial hair or cutting your hair, you should shampoo and/or condition it. Then thoroughly towel dry your hair, unless you don’t mind cutting through damp hair.

2. Be conservative with trimmer guards
When using your hair trimmers, you want to be conservative with your trimmer guard. There’s two ways to do this, with one being to start with the highest number and work your way down one by one. For example, if the highest number guard you own is six, then start with six and work your way down until your hair is the desired length. The second way to be conservative with your guard is to just be extremely cautious as you trim your hair. Take your time, that way you don’t make any mistakes.

3. Use a hair comb for even lines
A medium or large comb can be used to help you get even lines in your hair. When trimming your hair, put your hair through the comb and then take the trimmers to it. If you’re giving yourself a side part, then place the comb’s teeth flat against the area where you want a line and then you can trim along the comb.

4. Clip Against The Direction Of Hair Growth
When using your beard trimmer, clip against the hair growth. This will result in a close shave and will reduce the risk of irritating your skin. Not only that, but clipping against the direction of hair growth is much quicker.

5. Brush off excess hair
Invest in a grooming kit. Kits have useful accessories in them, including accessories to remove excess hair, such as a brush. Using a brush to remove excess loose hair is the fastest and easiest way to get rid of loose hair.

6. Invest in a quality trimmer/shaver
Asides from implementing the above tips, you’ll want to invest in a good men’s shaver, such as a Philips shaver. A quality shaver will make cutting and trimming your hair much easier.
