Plastic Surgery Trends You Should Be Excited About

Cosmetic surgery procedures have been on the rise over the past decade across the country. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has released its annual report, which states that approximately 18 million people in the country have undergone some kind of surgical and minimally invasive procedure in the year 2018. This figure is expected to see considerable growth in the year 2020. When it comes to popular plastic surgery trends, a rough estimate for the year 2018 is as follows:

  • Breast augmentation – 313,735 procedures
  • Liposuction – 258,558 procedures
  • Nose reshaping – 213,780 procedures
  • Eyelid surgery – 206,529 procedures
  • Tummy tuck – 130,081 procedures

Among the minimally invasive procedure, Botox, soft tissue fillers, and chemical peels have seen considerable growth with percentage increases by 3, 2, and 1, respectively, from 2017.

What’s been predicted for 2019?
People prefer to opt for procedures that provide a predictable result and are less willing to take risks. The years 2017 and 2018 also saw innumerable cosmetic surgery fails and the general attitude is to be on the ‘safe-side.’ People are inclined towards taking less risk these days and prefer to stick to procedures that show consistency in results. Hence, liposuction seems to top the list for 2019.

Age-wise makeovers are likely to be the next big thing in the years to come. For example, rhinoplasty seems to be far more relevant for someone in their mid-20s to 30s and body contouring for mothers who are in the age group mid-30s to 45s.

Breast augmentation is here to stay. There is no denying that breast augmentation is highly sought after by women in their mid-30s. However, there is a change in preference even here. Five years back, many preferred to have overly sized implants to make their breasts stand out and to create a trend, which in fact became popular. However, the preference these days is to have a fuller and better shaped breast than over-sized ones.

Botox is included in the category of toxins and fillers. These treatments have been famous for decades now. Another procedure that can be included under toxins and fillers is lip fills. Lip filling is quite famous among those in their mid-20s, while botox treatment is more popular among those in their mid-40s.

According to ASPS, adults under 45 are more likely to consider getting a cosmetic surgery procedure than those aged 45 and above in the next twelve months. Experts in the industry also state that people in the country prefer to make only mild variations to their face instead of going for significant changes. Furthermore, there are less reported accounts of wanting to look like a particular celebrity than ever before – people want to be themselves but by fixing minor issues.
